Jen Cloher, Melbourne bred songwriter and singer has revealed that Courtney Barnett’s new album is due next year.
In an interview with Spain’s Binaural, she spilled that her bandmate, partner and frequent music collaborator, Courtney Barnett will most definitely be releasing her newest album in 2018. Since 2015, after the huge success of Courtney’s highly acclaimed Sometimes I Sit And Think, Sometimes I Just Sit, she has been busy in her world tour, so it comes as no surprise that she hadn’t been able to create more music.
Although no specifics about the album have been released, we can expect it to be great, even if it just contains Courtney Barnett singing along with her piano, which we have nothing against of course, who would?
Courtney is also the lead guitarist in Jen’s band, and is also her partner. She is known for her witty style of singing and rambling lyrics. When she was young she attended St. Michael’s Collegiate School and the Tasmania School of Art. Courtney is a left hander, and also uses guitars made especially for left hander people.
She first attracted attention with her debut piece I’ve Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris, and was noted by the American and UK press. Barnett was also commended for her musical talent as a standout performer by The Rolling Stones and The New York Times after her well received performances at The CMJ Music Marathon.
After the debut of her album Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit, she won four awards out of eight nominations at the ARIA Music Awards in 2015. She also went on to be nominated for Best New Artists at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, and for the international female singer award at the 2016 Brit Awards.
Courtney started out in 2013, playing second guitar in Melbourne band Rapid Transit. In 2013, she played lead guitar in Jen Cloher’s third studio album In Blood Memory. She grew up on American bands, and later discovered Australian musicians which inspired her to live her music dream.
Even though there is still a while in the release of Courtney Barnett’s newest album to be released, she and her partner will be giving performances in Australia later this year. So make sure you don’t miss them! Meanwhile, if you haven’t already, listen to Barnett’s critically acclaimed album Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit. It is truly a stunner.
