Fans of Selena Gomez may have followed her ever since her childhood star days, but not a lot of people know how the young artist has been truly feeling at the time. This changes, thanks to a refreshing new interview.

Selena Gomez, now 25, told The Business of Fashion a wide variety of little factoids and shared a ton of insight towards her journey from Disney artist to a surging pop star. As per Music-News, despite the fame and the popularity, Gomez did admit the journey has been extremely difficult.

“It’s a lonely journey to really figure out where all this stuff is coming from, and to detach from it,” Gomez said. She said it is extremely difficult to both become an “icon” of sorts to represent a phenomenon, and at the same time get detached from negativity.

This may have taken a toll on her, especially since she had to navigate through her teenage years in the sprawling landscape that is Hollywood. She shared instances where she felt “violated” at a young age, where photographers were already surrounding her at the beach at 15 or 16 years old.

She said she counts the popular artist such as Taylor Swift as one of her closest friends, but she has fewer people in her social circles.

Gomez also gave advice to fans and peers about being selective with friends. “It feels great to be connected to people, but having boundaries is so important,” she said. She added that good friends are those who not only respect you, but also want the best for you. As a good friend, you likewise should want the best for them.

It can be remembered that Gomez appeared on TV at a tender age of 10 as a star in Barney & Friends. Her career as an actress, and eventually a pop star, have begun full-swing after that. She became the lead in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place before fully transforming into a pop singer.
